Patients may require lenses to improve this eye-brain teamwork, especially in cases of Binocular Vision Dysfunction (BVD). Our goal is to prescribe the lowest-power lens (or prism) to achieve the maximum result. We call this the Best Binocular Prescription. Low prescriptions may be rehabilitative, meaning the lenses can help the brain to improve its visual processing skills, and after a while, the lenses are no longer needed.

Specialty prescriptions can:

  • Improve near focusing ability
  • Reduce digital eye strain
  • Slightly magnify what you see
  • Enhance your brain’s awareness of peripheral vision
  • Reduce headaches
  • Help with eye tracking and teaming
  • Reduce motion sensitivity
  • Lessen symptoms of visual overwhelm
  • Improve balance and/or posture
  • Eliminate or reduce double vision

A binocular vision evaluation is necessary to determine the best lens power for your brain. The evaluation will include:

  • History of symptoms
  • Testing of focusing, eye tracking, and eye teaming
  • Determination of lens prescription (“1 or 2?”)
  • Trial framing to fine-tune the prescription
  • Re-testing of specific skills with the best lens
  • Follow up to ensure success!

The Best Binocular Prescription may be all the patient needs, but sometimes additional treatments (like syntonics or vision therapy) are necessary to fully improve the eye-brain connection.
